Understanding the world involves guiding children to make sense of their physical world and their community through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology and the environment.
Winter has arrived in the nursery garden. Here we are exploring the ice and snow.
‘The ice is strong but we can break it with our feet’

‘It’s crunchy, a cold and it’s nice to touch. Sometimes it’s soft but sometimes it’s crunchy!’
‘It’s cold. The ice came from the snow. It will melt. The sun will melt it.’
‘It’s crunchy. You have to wear your school clothes and some gloves and some hats and some coats and some scarves.’
‘It’s slippy and cold. You wear hats and scarves and gloves and a coat.’
‘You need warm clothes. Coats, gloves, wellies fluffy socks.’
