The Place Where We Live
This term our Geography focus is ‘The Place Where We live’. We are going to be exploring the local area to identify different human and physical features.
The children spent time exploring their local area using Google Maps. The children really enjoyed this and were fascinated with being able to move along streets/places they were familiar with.
The children explored aerial photographs of local settlements and made observations about them. The children then used their observations to determine if the settlements were; towns, cities or villages.
The children developed their skills of reading digital maps and explored different symbols. They were then able to identify lots of different features from their local area.
The children discovered the difference between human and physical features. They then used this knowledge to decide which category, features from their local area, went into. The children were then able to identify different human and physical features from a digital map.
