As the culmination of our technology unit this term, designing fairground rides which use rotational mechanisms, Year 6 had a great time on Thursday putting their plans into action! The children worked with real independence and resilience to turn their visions in working realities. The biggest challenge was attaching the motor to the mechanisms created so they were secure enough to stay in contact but not so secure that movement was impaired. All the pictures above show working models where the group successfully achieved this.

As part of our DT topic all about fairground rides, we explored the mechanisms used to power a selection of rides. We then made circuits and investigated a variety of different pulleys sizes, belt types and axels to see how they affected rotation and speeds.
