Meet the Teacher Meeting 29.09.21

Welcome to Year 4. Homework will be set on Friday to be completed by the following Friday (1 week). The homework is as follows:


Spellings list and activities set on Spelling Shed. Tested the following Friday.

Maths activities will be set on Maths Shed. 1 week to complete the game/s.

English/topic will be set on a Friday via Seesaw and should be completed by the following Friday. 


Reading should be daily for around 15 minutes. Please use the Go Read App if your child is on the school reading scheme. Record their progress and any relevant reading comments on the Go Read App. If your child is a free reader (no longer on the school scheme) please also record what they are reading on the Go Read App.

Don't forget! You can also read your own book as well for pleasure. Use Go Read to tell me what you read so that I know which books you enjoy. 


Some children also have Reading Plus accounts. They complete lessons in school 3 times a week. They would also benefit hugely from completing a further 3 sessions at home each week. Each session should take about 20 minutes.


All children have a Times Tables Rockstar login. These should be practised daily.

In Year 4, children sit a mandatory government times table test. They will be tested on the 1, 2 3 4 5, 6 ,7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 times table multiplication facts. 

Adapting to the ever-changing learning environment, St. Bede’s now offers an approach to learning known as blended learning - a method of teaching that integrates technology and digital media with traditional teacher-led classroom activities. When children are requested to work from home (if isolating) or when completing their homework, they will be required to access a range of online apps, e.g., Seesaw, Spelling Shed, Maths Shed, Zoom and more. Below you will find a list of ‘Top Tips for Home Learning’ – a guide to ensure that both you and your child have a positive home learning experience.


Top Tips for Home Learning

  • Take an active interest in your child’s learning. Make yourself aware of school’s expectations in terms of homework or home learning requirements so that you’re are able to support your child whenever required.


  • Remind your child that, despite being at home, the same standard of work, level of behaviour and conduct is required as if they were at school. When streaming, encourage them to be polite, remember their manners and not to make any negative comments just because they are behind a computer.


  • When isolating, establish a daily schedule and routine – try to stick to a daily routine based wherever possible on a normal school day and use the timetable set to help your child keep up with their home learning.


  • Encourage screen breaks away from devices – home learning will inevitably require more interaction with computers, laptops and tablets. Parents should keep a check on their child’s time online and encourage them to take a break, maybe get some fresh air and exercise.


  • Ensure your learning device is in a public space in the home – it is important to consider where your computer or device is placed if live-streaming is being used. Try to keep the background neutral with no personal information visible. Children should not use computers or devices in their bedroom whilst taking part in any school livestreaming lesson and you must ensure that your child is dressed appropriately at all times.


  • Make sure you have safety controls and privacy restrictions on apps and software – to access some learning activities, you may need to download certain apps or software. Whilst every care will be taken to ensure these are safe to use, like any new app or platforms, parents should still implement safety controls as a precaution.   • Monitor your child’s communication and online activity.  Ensure your child only uses official school communication channels – it is important that all communication with teachers and school staff is directed through the school office or by email to the teacher’s school email address.


  • Familiarise yourself with relevant school policies – make sure you read relevant policies so that you know what is expected of our staff, yourself and your child. Our Online Safety Policy and Behaviour Policy are available on the school website, along with a range of other policies.


  • Monitor your child’s wellbeing and mental health – remote learning will mean that your child will not get the same level of social interaction as at school and they might not be able to see their friends for a while. Keep a check on their wellbeing and try to encourage them to get outdoors as much as possible.
