Gymnastics competition

Grime Scene Investigation Assembly
Thu 19 May 2016On Wednesday afternoon we were lucky enough to welcome Ingenious Iain for as special science assembly called Grime Scene Investigation. The event was organised by United Utilities and had an important environmental message. There was much fun, laughter, science and silliness. We even made the BBC evening news!

Hothersall Lodge
Fri 29 Apr 2016Last night we welcomed Year 6 parents to school for our Hothersall Lodge Information Evening. The evening provided an opportunity for parents to learn more about what the residential trip consists of, including details regarding accommodation, meals and activities.

2016 National Curriculum tests
Tue 12 Apr 2016In England, National Curriculum tests or 'SATs' are compulsory for all 7 and 11 year olds. This academic year the Standards and Testing Agency is changing the tests your child will take in May 2016 so that they assess the new national curriculum, introduced in 2014.
What are SATs?
SATs is short for Standard Assessment Tests. They are designed to help parents and teachers learn more about their child’s strengths and weaknesses in Reading, Maths, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation. This year a sample group of schools will participate in the Science test. We will inform parents if St Bede's has been identified as one of these schools.
At the end of Key Stage 1 (Year 2) children are tested on what they have been learning at school to assess the new national curriculum. They will be consist of formal assessments in Maths, Reading and Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG). These tests are designed to enable pupils to demonstrate their attainment and are not strictly timed since the ability to work at pace is not part of the process.
Phonic knowledge will continue to be assessed with the Phonics Screening.
When do SATs tests take place?
In Key Stage 1 there is no set week for the tests to take place, but all assessments must be completed and collated by the end of May 2016. Key Stage 2 SATs are always in May. This year the formal tests will take place during the week beginning 9th May 2016. Your child’s class teacher will continue to assess your child’s progress and attainment throughout the year.

Roll Back the Stone
Thu 24 Mar 2016What a wonderful way to end the spring term!
Our Y3 and Y4 Easter production ‘Roll Back the Stone’ was such a great success with many positive comments from all who attended. Congratulations go to all the performers for their wonderful acting and singing. The children really enjoyed participating in this retelling of the Easter story. We also must thank all the members of staff who helped make it so successful.
From all the staff at St Bede's, we wish you a very happy Easter holiday and look forward to seeing you all in the Summer term.

Easter Holidays
Thu 24 Mar 2016A reminder that school finishes for the Easter break at 1.15pm on Thursday 24 March.
School will re-open for Summer term at 8.45am on Monday 11 April.

International Aid appeal

Mother's Day Lunch
Thu 03 Mar 2016A huge thank you and congratulations has been passed on to everyone involved in the Mother's Day Lunch today. The whole event was a huge success, and parents and grandparents were keen to let us know how much they enjoyed themselves.
A special mention must go to our kitchen staff who worked tirelessly to make sure the occasion was such an enjoyable one! We would also like to thank Sainsbury's Bamber Bridge store, for their kind and generous donation of daffodils for all the parents and grandparents.
Once again, thank you to everyone who attended and all those involved.

World Book Day
Thu 03 Mar 2016Thank you to all the children, staff and parents for your fantastic efforts for World Book Day this year!
In the morning, events began with a whole school assembly were Mrs Plant shared some of her favourite books. The children then showed off their outfits with a catwalk around the hall. Prizes were given out for the most inventive costumes! Throughout the day the children were involved in many activities associated with reading, including designing their own book covers.
