Literacy

Today we learnt that speech bubble tell us what the character is saying.  We pretended to be the lazy dog, the sleepy cat and the noisy duck and practised say the key phrases “not I”. We then used our robot arms to help us segment words and write them in the speech bubbles. Excellent work Reception!

We have been orally rehearsing our class text The Little Red Hen and using our character sticks to help us. We have really thought about how the character might say their words and said the repeated phrases with lots of intonation.

We have been learning to identify the characters in our story. We have practised labelling our characters by segmenting the words and finding initial sounds. Look at our fantastic work!

Today we had our first visit to our school library. We chose a book to take home and share with our family.

This week we have listened to our class text The Little Red Hen. We learnt about the characters and used character stick puppets and actions to help tell the story. We have been learning how to write the characters names and identifying initial sounds in the words. Miss Tyrer brought some wheat for us to explore and we learnt that wheat makes flour which is an ingredient in our cereal, bread, biscuits and cakes.

We have started our phonics lessons and are working really hard to recall the sound we have learnt and apply then to our reading and writing. We have been learning how to write our names and practising acre writing shapes to help with fluency.

For homework, children where asked to complete an ‘all about me’ task for their sharing books. They have loved spending time flicking through their photos and talking about their family members, pet and special talents!
