Our next task was to design our moving picture and decide how many moving mechanisms we wanted to include. We also has to consider whether the mechanisms should be linear or oscillating. Can you spot the moving parts?

Some of the children’s mechanical systems showing an oscillating movement. How cool are they!

Later on the children created their own mechanical system with an oscillating movement.

The next day, we joined two mechanisms together to create a mechanical system. The children were introduced to new terms such as linear, slide, rotary and oscillating movements as well as fixed and loose pivots and bridges.

Mechanisms - Levers and Linkages. Today we began our DT topic by creating our own simple mechanisms using levers and pivots. First, we measured and cut out four strips of card of equal width and length. After that, we attached them together with a split pin. The strips of card act as the lever and the split pin acts as a pivot.
