The beginning of 2022 saw Year 4 sketching their own self portraits. We focussed on getting the proportions of the face correct.
Following our initial sketching, we used light and shade to add extra detail to our self portraits.
Later, we began to analyse the work of the German expressionist artist Kathe Kollwitz. She is well-known for creating many self portraits throughout her career. Her main focus was for art lovers to feel the mood of her work and connect with the emotion that she was trying to portray.
Next, we used the befunky website to edit photographs that we had taken of ourselves. We used the filters to edit the photographs so that the colours and textures matched the emotions of the person in the photograph.
