During Black History Month, we are celebrating the famous author and poet, Maya Angelou. We learnt about the struggles she faced growing up and her determination to succeed when others told her she couldn’t. We read and analysed her poem, ‘A Caged Bird’. We then worked in small groups to create a whole class performance of the poem.

As part of National Poetry Day, year 6 created blackout poetry using a text all about forest fires. We think they are stunning.

Our first English unit is based around Michael Morpurgo's novel, 'Kensuke's Kingdom'

Today, we simulated an ocean storm in the classroom and collected amazing vocabulary to use in our writing next week.
