St Bede's Catholic Primary School

The Wider Curriculum at St Bede's

At St Bede’s, learning extends far beyond the classroom. Our wider curriculum enriches pupils’ experiences, nurtures talents and helps children discover new interests and passions.

We are proud to offer a broad range of extra-curricular clubs and activities that support physical development, creativity, leadership and service.

Whether representing the school in sport, leading change through pupil voice, performing in choir or caring for creation, every child is encouraged to discover and develop their God-given gifts.

At St Bede’s, we help our pupils to grow not only as learners, but as confident, compassionate individuals ready to contribute positively to the wider world.

Sport and Physical Development

Physical activity plays an important role in developing confidence, teamwork and resilience. Our pupils have access to a wide range of sporting opportunities, including:

  • Football

  • Cheerleading

  • Volleyball

  • Dance

  • Multi-skills

  • Inter-school competitions and festivals

Through sport, children learn the importance of perseverance, fair play and respect. They develop healthy habits and experience the joy of working together towards a shared goal.

Music and the Arts

Creativity is celebrated across our school. Our choir provides opportunities for pupils to sing together in worship, at school events and within the wider community. Music helps children grow in confidence, express themselves and experience the unity that comes from lifting their voices together.

We also provide opportunities for performance, celebration and artistic expression throughout the year, ensuring every child has the chance to shine.

Pupil Leadership and Responsibility

We believe children should have meaningful opportunities to lead and serve others.

Our Pupil Parliament, School Council, and Faith in Action Team empower pupils to take an active role in shaping school life, supporting charitable initiatives and living out their faith through action. These groups encourage children to think about justice, service and the common good.

Our Big Friend, Little Friend initiative is a cherished part of school life. Our oldest pupils support Reception children during their first year in primary school, helping them to settle, feel safe and grow in confidence. This programme nurtures compassion, responsibility and a strong sense of family within our school community.

We are also proud of our Prefects, who take on important roles such as hall monitors, librarians and ambassadors for the school. These responsibilities develop maturity, reliability and pride in serving others.

Through these leadership opportunities, children learn that true leadership is rooted in service — using their gifts to support and uplift those around them.

Stewardship and Care for Creation

Our Gardening Club and environmental initiatives encourage children to care for the world around them. Rooted in our Catholic understanding of stewardship, pupils learn that the Earth is a gift entrusted to us. By planting, growing and caring for our grounds, they experience firsthand the responsibility and reward of looking after creation.
