St Bede's Catholic Primary School

French

At St Bede’s, learning French gives our children the opportunity to communicate beyond their own community and develop a wider understanding of the world. Through engaging lessons, pupils build skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing, developing accurate pronunciation and growing confidence over time.

Our curriculum is carefully sequenced to ensure progression, with regular opportunities to practise and apply new vocabulary and grammar. Songs, stories, games and role play make language learning enjoyable and memorable.

As part of a global Church that spans many countries and languages, learning French helps our pupils appreciate cultural diversity and recognise that they are part of an international community. Exploring French-speaking countries broadens horizons and encourages respect for different traditions and ways of life.

Through French, children strengthen their communication skills, resilience and curiosity — preparing them for further study and helping them to engage confidently with the wider world.
