Educational Trips and Visitors

At St Bede’s Catholic Primary School, we believe that learning extends far beyond the classroom. Our carefully planned programme of educational visits, residential experiences and visiting speakers enriches our curriculum, broadens horizons and creates lasting memories for our pupils.

We are committed to providing meaningful, high-quality experiences that inspire curiosity, deepen understanding and develop independence.

Year 6 Residential – Robin Wood, Wrexham

Each year, our Year 6 pupils take part in an exciting residential visit to Robin Wood Activity Centre.

This much-anticipated trip provides opportunities for:

  • Team building and problem solving

  • Outdoor adventure activities such as climbing, canoeing and archery

  • Developing resilience, independence and confidence

  • Strengthening friendships before transition to high school

The residential is a highlight of Year 6 and supports pupils’ personal as well as academic development.

Visitors to School

Learning is also enriched by welcoming a wide range of visitors into school. These experiences provide pupils with valuable real-life connections and expert knowledge.

We regularly welcome:

  • Dogs Trust to support learning about animal welfare and responsible pet ownership.

  • CAFOD to enhance understanding of global responsibility, Catholic Social Teaching and charitable work.

  • The local Fire Service and Police to reinforce important safety messages and support learning about the rule of law.

  • Our local library service to promote reading for pleasure and information literacy.

  • Visiting authors and illustrators who inspire creativity, storytelling and a love of books.

These visits help children see how their learning connects to the wider world and introduce them to a range of careers, causes and community roles.

Recent Class Trips and Educational Visits

Our recent educational visits showcase how we bring learning to life across all year groups at St Bede’s. Year 6 pupils enjoyed their residential visit to Robin Wood Activity Centre — a true highlight of their final year — developing teamwork, resilience and independence alongside valuable personal and academic skills.

Year 4 pupils visited Cuerden Valley Park to take part in a hands-on river study, strengthening their fieldwork skills and deepening their understanding of physical geography. Our history curriculum came alive for pupils exploring Roman Britain through a visit to Chester, where they investigated the Roman walls and amphitheatre.

In science, children enhanced their knowledge of space and forces during their trip to Jodrell Bank Observatory, engaging with interactive exhibits and real scientific discovery. Year 6 also applied their Design and Technology learning in a real-world setting at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, analysing roller coaster structures and mechanisms. Meanwhile, our Reception children visited Martin Mere Wetland Centre to explore animals and life cycles through first-hand experiences in nature.

These visits enrich our curriculum, create lasting memories and help every child develop a deeper understanding of their learning beyond the classroom.

Why Educational Visits and Visitors Matter

At St Bede’s, we firmly believe that educational visits and visiting speakers:

  • Bring the curriculum to life

  • Provide memorable, real-world learning experiences

  • Develop independence, resilience and teamwork

  • Build cultural capital

  • Strengthen community links

  • Inspire curiosity, ambition and aspiration

Through our rich programme of experiences, we ensure that every child benefits from opportunities that extend learning beyond the classroom, deepen understanding and create lifelong memories.
